Guwahati: Mridumudra Deka died Thursday at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. She spent over a month fighting for her life after a violent attack in Assam’s Nalbari district. The eighteen-year-old was the second victim of the May 30 incident. Her death brings the toll to two.

Deka and 19-year-old Madhurjya Barman were riding a scooter home from Nalbari town when Roz Ali intercepted them near Gangapur. Witnesses found the pair in a pool of blood by the road. Barman, the Assistant General Secretary of the West Nalbari Regional Students Union, died at the scene. Doctors rushed Deka to the hospital, but she eventually succumbed to her injuries on July 3.

The community reacted with fury. Student groups and local residents staged protests, calling for swift justice. Regarding the investigation, authorities noted that the prime suspect, Roz Ali, "was killed in a police encounter conducted by Assam Police in Mukalmua." Pressure is now mounting on officials to wrap up the legal proceedings against any remaining parties involved in the attack.
