Guwahati: The Nagaon Municipal Board has officially banned spitting and the creation of red stains in public spaces to improve local hygiene and cleanliness. A notice issued on May 20 mandates that residents, shopkeepers, and vehicle drivers refrain from spitting or discarding residue from tobacco products like gutkha, paan, zarda, and betel nut.

This restriction covers a wide range of locations, including market areas, roadsides, office premises, parks, bus stands, and school campuses. Municipal authorities stated that these habits ruin the town's aesthetic appeal while creating unhygienic conditions that threaten public health. The initiative is part of a broader push to make Nagaon a cleaner and more attractive environment for everyone.

Officials are calling on the public to cooperate with these new standards. Those caught violating the order will face fines and potential legal consequences under municipal regulations. The board remains focused on fostering a healthier urban space and encourages citizens to take responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of their town.
