Kohima: Nagaland must break its reliance on central government funding. The state economy runs on government salaries, creating a cycle of corruption, nepotism, and unemployment. This model fails the long-term test. Khrietuo Yhome, CEO of Rhaeven Capital, delivered this warning at the Exclusive MSME Outreach Programme held July 13 at Hotel Vivor in Kohima. He told the audience that, "such an economy is neither sustainable nor desirable in the long run."
Yhome wants locals to stop seeking government jobs. True entrepreneurship solves problems and creates wealth. It shifts the culture from dependence to enterprise. He urged citizens to become producers and innovators. He noted, "we must aspire to become employers rather than employees, producers rather than consumers, innovators rather than job seekers."
Santanu Saha of Canara Bank echoed these points. He noted that Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises generate over 30 percent of the national GDP. These businesses provide 35 percent of manufacturing output and half of India's exports. Canara Bank aims to partner with local entrepreneurs. Saha promised support for local growth, adding, "please make us part of your growth. We are there to support and grow with you."
The event featured presentations from various state departments and agencies. Participants included the Department of Finance, Department of Labour, EPFO Ministry of Labour, Department of Industries and Commerce, and the Taxes Department. Representatives from the Kohima Municipal Council, the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and chartered accountant Saurav Agarwal also spoke. Robin Temsu led the invocation, and Martin Longkumer delivered the final vote of thanks.
