Kohima: The Nagaland Police have issued a formal advisory warning social media users and group administrators against the circulation of content that threatens public order or spreads misinformation. Authorities intend to take strict legal action against anyone who posts or forwards material that violates legal and ethical standards.

The police emphasize that group administrators hold a responsibility to monitor discussions within their platforms. Under the new directive, administrators cannot evade accountability for content shared by members. If a post is deemed offensive or unlawful, both the individual who shared it and the group administrator face potential legal consequences.

Regarding this shared responsibility, the advisory states, "If any post, message, or material is found to be offensive, misleading, unlawful, or likely to disturb public peace and tranquillity, the concerned individual and group administrator will be held liable and appropriate legal action shall be initiated against them as per the provisions of law."

Users are encouraged to verify the authenticity of all information before sharing it with others. The police specifically cautioned against circulating any material that could incite hatred, violence, or public panic. By staying vigilant, authorities hope to prevent the spread of harmful content across digital platforms in the state.
