Three Assam Fishery Development Corporation Officials Rearrested in Graft Case

Guwahati: Authorities in Guwahati rearrested three officials from the Assam Fishery Development Corporation on Wednesday as part of an ongoing corruption investigation. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption confirmed that former Project Director Padma Kanta Hazarika, along with colleagues Birinchi Adikari and Jyotish Saikia, were taken back into custody.

These arrests stem from Dispur Police Station Case 298/2022, which involves allegations of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and breach of trust. The officials face charges under Sections 120B, 420, 406, and 409 of the Indian Penal Code. Following their appearance in court on Wednesday, a judge granted the police a two-day remand for the trio.

Hazarika had previously been arrested on May 30 regarding a separate case focused on violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act. That specific investigation also led to the arrests of eight other corporation employees on May 26. Regarding the progress of the inquiry, the Directorate stated that "investigations are continuing in both cases."
