Kohima: Nagaland Police issued a formal advisory on Monday urging social media users and group administrators to exercise caution with the content they share online. Authorities warned that those responsible for distributing unlawful, misleading, or inflammatory material could face legal consequences.

The police emphasized that group administrators hold a specific responsibility to monitor their platforms and ensure that all images, videos, and messages adhere to legal standards. Officials stated that administrators must ensure that content does not provoke hatred, violence, or public disorder.

The department cautioned that both the original poster and the group administrator could be held liable under relevant laws if material is deemed offensive or disruptive to public peace. The force advised users to verify all information before forwarding it to others. According to the advisory, any post or message that is found to be "offensive, misleading, unlawful or likely to disturb public peace and tranquillity could attract legal action."
