Kohima: Reported sexual abuse cases against minors in Nagaland have doubled since 2022. Dimapur Commissioner of Police Aotula T. Imchen confirmed that cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act jumped from seven to 15 this year. Meanwhile, police located 216 missing children in 2025.

Many of these missing cases stem from runaways or elopements. Imchen told the Dimapur District Planning and Development Board that adults must watch for red flags. She noted, "Clearly defined responsibilities, prompt referrals, regular coordination meetings, and efficient information-sharing mechanisms are essential to ensuring timely support for vulnerable children."

Schools and parents should watch for dropouts or strange behavior. These signs often point to future exploitation. Imchen wants a tighter bond between police, welfare agencies, and local community leaders to keep kids safe.

Traffic woes also hit the agenda. The city faces constant gridlock. DCP Meren Chenth presented a new plan to clear the streets. Officials now wait for formal approval to start fixing the mess.
