Kohima: Nagaland marked the 12th International Day of Yoga this week. Schools, military bases, and government offices held mass sessions to promote healthy living. The events centered on the theme of Yoga for Healthy Ageing.
The Department of Youth Resources and Sports hosted a large gathering at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima. Yoga instructor Lawrence led the group, which included NCC cadets and students. He argued that consistent practice builds peace of mind and fitness. Meanwhile, Assam Rifles held mass events across their network. Personnel and students trained in Mon, Tuensang, and Kiphire. Around 300 soldiers and 80 cadets joined the Kiphire session alone.
Academic institutions also joined the effort. The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research held an online yoga meet. Students shared how these movements improve emotional balance. At the Regional Ayurveda Research Centre in Dimapur, Dr. Dipsundar Sahu spoke on the theme "From Stress to Strength" during events at MGM College. Certified instructor Rita Singh taught participants how to manage mental strain.
ICFAI University held a specific workshop on mind and body wellness to kick off the celebration early. Across the region, participants practiced asanas and meditation to foster community health. These programs emphasized moving yoga from a once-a-year event into a daily habit for better long-term health.
