Nagaland Leaders Condemn Assault on BJP Candidate During Wokha By-election

Kohima: Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton and the Nagaland BJP have strongly denounced the physical assault and intimidation of party candidate Mhomo Humtsoe. The incident occurred on June 16 during the Ward-8 by-election in Wokha.

Patton condemned the use of threats and violence within the electoral process. He emphasized that the sanctity of a democracy relies on the ballot box rather than disorder. He stated, "violence, threats and attempts to instil fear had no place in a democracy."

The Deputy Chief Minister called for accountability regarding the attack and urged party supporters to remain disciplined. He encouraged all political factions to prioritize peaceful participation to ensure a fair election.

The state BJP unit also addressed the incident, praising local police and district administration for their quick intervention. Authorities have since imposed Section 163 of the BNSS to restore order. The party is now calling for strict legal action against the individuals involved in the assault while urging citizens to maintain restraint throughout the voting process.
