Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has officially opened four new incubation and food processing facilities across the state. These projects, funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, aim to expand rural entrepreneurship, improve market access for farmers, and create new jobs for young people.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the main Food Processing Centre in Toluvi, Dimapur, while virtually launching three other sites: an incubation facility at the Industrial Growth Centre in Ganeshnagar, an incubation centre for food processing in Tuensang, and a modern aggregation centre in Longnak, Mokokchung. Rio noted that these initiatives align with the national vision of building a developed nation, stating, "Small-scale industries, especially food processing, hold significant potential for driving economic growth in Nagaland."

Government officials intend to replicate these projects in every district to capitalize on region-specific crops and boost productivity. Advisor for Industries and Commerce Hekani Jakhalu confirmed that these sites are pilot projects with a long-term goal of establishing independent processing hubs in all districts by 2028. She highlighted that the initiative is designed to create a complete value chain that bridges the gap between local agricultural production and market demand.

The Department of Industries and Commerce plans to operate these facilities by focusing on six core pillars: production, processing, preservation, packaging, pricing, and patenting. Advisor for SCERT and Food Processing Achumbemo Kikon urged stakeholders and local communities to collaborate on these efforts, noting that physical infrastructure requires strong agricultural support to successfully strengthen the state economy.
