Kohima: Nagaland GST officials hit Kohima hard. They launched a series of inspection and seizure operations across local shops starting June 23. The crackdown targets businesses failing to follow the NGST Act of 2017. Inspectors combed through sales records, purchase invoices, and stock registers to verify if traders are playing by the rules.
The teams checked if shops issue proper tax invoices for every sale. They also compared the stock sitting in godowns against the numbers filed in official returns. Discrepancies lead to trouble. Officials seized various sales documents, including cash memos and bills, to dig deeper into potential tax dodging.
Traders must now keep better books or face the consequences. The department told business owners to follow the law or pay the price. "Shop owners and traders were asked to maintain proper records as mandated under Section 35 of the NGST Act, 2017, issue genuine tax invoices for every transaction, and file GST returns accurately and within the prescribed timelines to avoid penalties and legal consequences."
More raids are coming. Inspectors plan to sweep different parts of Kohima over the next few weeks. This is part of a larger push to ensure businesses stay transparent and pay their fair share.
