Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav urged the public to become regular blood donors during an event held on Friday, June 12. Speaking ahead of World Blood Donor Day on June 14, he emphasized that every unit of donated blood acts as a critical lifeline for patients requiring emergency transfusions.

During his address, the Governor underscored the vital impact of altruistic contributions on the state's medical infrastructure. "Voluntary donors form the backbone of a safe and sustainable blood supply system that supports patients requiring transfusions. Their selfless service deserves the highest appreciation and continued support," Yadav stated. He noted that he has personally donated blood 36 times throughout his life, frequently choosing to do so on his own birthdays.

Margaret Yhome, Director of the Nagaland State Blood Transfusion Council, also addressed the assembly. She explained that the global observance aims to promote awareness regarding the necessity of safe blood products while honoring those who give voluntarily. Yhome added that the state must maintain consistent efforts to boost donation rates to meet the ongoing needs of local hospitals and patients.
