Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has welcomed the safe release of Kuki hostages, an outcome facilitated by the United Naga Council, local civil society organizations, and the Baptist World Alliance. The Chief Minister held multiple discussions with Naga community leaders over recent weeks to advocate for a resolution centered on humanitarian concerns.
Rio stated that the decision to release the hostages reflects a deep commitment to human rights and dignity. He noted that the move is "a reflection of respect for human life, commitment to human rights, and the belief that humanity must prevail even during conflict."
The Chief Minister expressed optimism that this development will help restore trust and mend divisions within the region. He emphasized that building lasting peace in Manipur requires ongoing dialogue and mutual understanding between all involved parties.
Following the positive outcome for the Kuki hostages, Rio issued a fresh appeal for the safe release of six Naga individuals currently held captive. He believes a reciprocal release would significantly bolster efforts toward regional harmony and reconciliation.
