Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is calling on the central government to take urgent action to recover six members of the Naga community who were abducted in Manipur. During a phone conversation on May 29, Rio conveyed the deep distress of the Naga community to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested his personal intervention to track down those responsible.
In response, Shah assured the Chief Minister that the case is being treated as a high priority. He committed to mobilizing the necessary agencies to locate the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable under the law. Rio also held follow-up discussions with the Union Home Secretary and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau to ensure a coordinated response.
While acknowledging the mounting anxiety felt by the victims' families, Rio asked the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities during the ongoing investigation. He emphasized that maintaining regional peace remains a critical objective.
Addressing the broader situation, Rio wrote to the United Naga Council urging them to release 14 Kuki individuals currently in their custody. He advocated for reconciliation and compassion, stressing that all parties involved should prioritize human dignity to prevent further escalation of regional tensions.
