Nagaland Church Council Backs Liquor Prohibition Crackdown

Kohima: The Nagaland Baptist Church Council officially backed the state government's recent crackdown on illegal booze. Authorities sealed several businesses suspected of selling liquor in violation of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act. This law has been on the books since 1989.

NBCC general secretary Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener and social concern department secretary Dr. Villo Naleo issued a joint statement. They argued that the act remains vital for protecting public health, social order, and family stability. The council admitted that past attempts to enforce the rules faced significant hurdles. They still insist the goal of shielding society from alcohol-related harm is worth the fight.

The organization pushed for consistent, fair, and transparent enforcement moving forward. They hope these actions will build long-term public confidence. According to the council, "alcohol abuse continued to cause family breakdown, health problems, violence and economic hardship." Real change requires individual accountability alongside strict government policy.
