Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has appointed five legislators as advisors to key state departments. This expansion marks the first of its kind since the 2023 Assembly elections and aims to utilize the expertise of elected officials to support government functions.
Kuzholuzo Nienu will serve as Advisor for Science and Technology, while Puthai Longon takes on the role for Taxes. Picto Shohe is assigned to New and Renewable Energy. Achumbemo Kikon will oversee SCERT and Food Processing. Daochier I. Imchen has been named Advisor for Information and Public Relations, as well as Soil and Water Conservation.
The government also adjusted the portfolio for Nyusietho Nyuthen. He remains an Advisor to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority and adds Inland Waterways to his responsibilities, while stepping down from his role in New and Renewable Energy. The advisors are tasked with providing recommendations and input on departmental issues before they reach ministers for final approval.
These positions carry no extra salary or financial benefits beyond the existing compensation of assembly members. This move brings the total count of advisors in the Rio administration to 29. The appointment of Nienu and Kikon is particularly notable as it follows the October 2025 merger of the Naga People's Front into the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party.
