Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio appointed five MLAs as advisors to various government departments on June 1. This strategic expansion brings the total number of advisors in the Rio-led administration to 29.

Official notification from Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen confirmed the immediate induction of the legislators. Kuzholuzo Nienu takes charge of Science and Technology, while Puthai Longon oversees Taxes. Picto Shohe will manage New and Renewable Energy alongside Sustainable Development Goals. Kikon assumes responsibility for Forest and Food Processing.

The reshuffle includes changes for existing advisors. Nyushetho Nyuthe retains his role at the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority and adds Inland Waterways to his duties. Meanwhile, Dolie Yimkhiung moves to handle Information and Public Relations, Social Welfare, and Soil and Water Conservation.

The government stated these advisors will provide recommendations to ministers on departmental matters. These positions do not carry additional salaries or perks beyond the standard entitlements of a legislative assembly member. This development marks the first expansion of advisors since the 2023 assembly elections and includes the first appointments from the Naga People's Front following its merger with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party last year.
