Kohima: The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has issued a strong condemnation of election-related violence, calling for immediate accountability for those involved in recent unrest. Dr. Villo Naleo, the council's secretary for social concern, warned that intimidation and vandalism threaten the democratic process and undermine public trust in institutions.
The organization specifically addressed recent conflicts in Wokha, where candidates were targeted. Describing the attacks as “reprehensible and utterly unacceptable,” the council insisted that political ambition and partisan loyalty cannot justify physical force. They demanded that everyone responsible for instigating or conducting these acts must face the full force of the law.
Beyond addressing security concerns, the NBCC urged political parties and community leaders to prioritize a culture of dialogue and mutual respect. The group also directed a message to elected MLAs and municipal councillors, reminding them that public office is a sacred trust. While the council acknowledged that not every campaign promise is achievable, they emphasized that representatives must act with sincerity, transparency, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of their constituents.
