Imphal: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio led a high-level team to New Delhi this Wednesday. They met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to force movement on the stalled Naga peace process. The group included Deputy Chief Ministers T.R. Zeliang and Y. Patton from Nagaland, alongside Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and NPF leader Awangbow Newmai.
Talks focused on the long-pending political settlement and the volatile situation in Manipur. The delegation described the session as "positive and fruitful" while discussing Naga interests that span state borders. Peace remains elusive despite the 2015 Framework Agreement with the NSCN-IM.
Tensions remain high. Naga groups continue to demand a final, time-bound deal to end decades of instability. Meanwhile, the region grapples with the fallout of the ongoing Manipur crisis. Apex Naga organizations have pushed the Centre to cancel Suspension of Operations agreements with Kuki militant factions. This follows the kidnapping of 18 Naga civilians in Kangpokpi district this past May. Searchers later found the bodies of six victims, sparking widespread protests across the region.
