Kohima: Nagaland Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, H Tovihoto Ayemi, recently hailed the annual Phom Day celebration as a model for regional harmony. Speaking at the 74th anniversary event held at Ao Senden Riju, Dimapur, Ayemi commended the Phom community for their long-standing commitment to peace and their ability to foster unity among fellow Nagas.

Organized by the Dimapur Phom Union, the celebration marked the historic decision by Phom elders decades ago to end headhunting and embrace collective harmony. Ayemi noted that the community's history serves as an inspiration for the entire state, proving that communal cooperation can effectively establish a stable and peaceful environment. He stated, "The Phom community has shown the path and set a classic example of how a community coming together as one can create a peaceful environment."

Addressing the gathering, the advisor encouraged all Naga tribes to prioritize patience and brotherhood. He argued that while the Nagas are spread across various regions including Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Myanmar, they should leverage their unique cultural identities to strengthen, rather than divide, their society. The event also featured contributions from local officials, including Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang and Naga Council Dimapur president GK Rengma, who joined in the calls for renewed friendship and regional solidarity.
