Imphal: The Naga Women’s Union has formally requested that the Director General of the National Investigation Agency conduct a swift, impartial investigation into the abduction and murder of six civilians from Konsakhul village. The Manipur government previously transferred the case to the federal agency, which is currently performing DNA and forensic analysis at the JNIMS Mortuary in Imphal.
These victims were part of a group of 18 Naga civilians abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13. While 12 captives were eventually set free, the mutilated remains of the remaining six individuals were recovered on June 10. The union is now pressing for the immediate arrest of several suspects, including the Leilon Vaiphei village chief, over 30 women residents implicated in the hostage-taking, and state police officer Thanggilian Vaiphei.
Reports from survivors confirm the alleged involvement of the police officer during their captivity. The union also wants investigators to scrutinize the role of the KNF(P), a militant group operating under a Suspension of Operations agreement, in the planning of the attack. Describing the incident as a "profound human tragedy," the group insists that a transparent pursuit of justice is essential to restore public trust in the rule of law. The NIA remains focused on gathering evidence alongside state police and forensic specialists to build its case against those responsible.
