Naga Village Guard Issues Final Warning Over Civilian Attacks

Imphal: The Western Command of the Naga Village Guard (NVG) has issued a stern warning to militant factions following a surge in violence against Naga civilians. The organization explicitly condemned the killing of Wilson Thanga, an unarmed Naga farmer who was murdered near Joujangtek on May 13.

In a formal statement, the group rejected claims that Nagas were responsible for a recent attack on Nohjang. The NVG attributed that incident to internal infighting among Kuki militant groups and urged those organizations to stop blaming the Naga community for their own conflicts. The NVG warned that while they have maintained restraint to preserve regional peace, they will no longer tolerate aggression toward their people.

Beyond physical violence, the group demanded an immediate halt to the harassment of travelers and the obstruction of the Tongjei Maril Road, also known as the Old Cachar Road. The statement emphasized that the group remains committed to protecting its territory, asserting that "further attacks on Naga civilians would not be tolerated." The NVG concluded by calling for accountability and a renewed respect for the safety and rights of all local communities.
