Guwahati: The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) successfully hosted its 61st annual Nagas’ Meet this Saturday at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. Centered around the theme “Common Heritage, Collective Voices, Converging Horizons,” the gathering served as a significant platform for students, community members, and supporters to celebrate their shared identity and cultural traditions.
The event opened with an invocation followed by a series of vibrant cultural displays, including the traditional Sumi war dance, "Aphilo Kuwo," and various choral performances. In his presidential address, NSUD President D. Soziio Mao stressed the importance of fostering unity, responsibility, and the preservation of heritage among the diaspora's youth. The Naga Students Federation (NSF) from Kohima also extended a goodwill message, advocating for continued cooperation and collective progress among Naga students nationwide.
The celebration was attended by prominent figures, including Chief Guest James P. K. Sangma, Chairman of the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation, and Guest of Honour Armstrong Pame, IAS, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Education. Sangma underscored the vital role of indigenous unity and youth leadership in nation-building, while Pame encouraged students to balance academic excellence with a strong grounding in their cultural values.
Reflecting on the Union's legacy, former NSUD President Phungshok Khongreiwoshi presented a "Then & Now" address. He detailed the organization's evolution since the 1990s, highlighting its ongoing commitment to community welfare, including blood donation initiatives and humanitarian aid during the COVID-19 pandemic. He further noted the Union's proactive stance in addressing social issues, such as advocating for dignity and combating racial discrimination.
