Naga groups hold NH-2 blockade in Manipur despite government pressure

Imphal: Naga organizations continue to choke National Highway-2 in Manipur. The blockade stalls essential supply lines into Kangpokpi. Protesters gathered at Namdinglong in the Kanglatongbi area on Thursday. They stopped all goods-laden vehicles from passing through the district. Meira Paibi groups and valley-based organizations joined the standoff.

The agitators demand justice for six Naga civilians killed by suspected Kuki terrorists. Landingam Kamei, a representative for the Naga Humanitarian Aid Committee, blamed illegal immigrants for the violence. He says the blockade stays until the government acts. Kamei warned that his group will take serious action against anyone trying to move goods into Kangpokpi. "It has been almost three years" since Kuki groups started blocking the highway, he claimed.

Kamei accused the state government of playing favorites. He alleges that security forces currently escort Kuki residents between Kangpokpi and Imphal. Meanwhile, he claims authorities ignore the needs of Naga communities. The government has not reached out to negotiate. Instead, Kamei says officials rely on security escorts to bypass the protest lines. Tensions remain high as the blockade drags on.
