Imphal: IPS officer Mukesh Singh officially took charge as the Director General of Police for Manipur on Monday. Upon his arrival at the Police Headquarters in Mantripukhri, he received a ceremonial Guard of Honour from department personnel before meeting with senior officers to discuss his operational priorities.

During his introductory meeting, Singh called for a focus on professionalism and strict adherence to the Rule of Law. He stressed the importance of maintaining impartiality, acting in accordance with the Constitution of India, and ensuring strong coordination with other security agencies.

A 1996-batch officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories cadre, Singh previously served as the police chief in Ladakh. The Central government approved his three-year inter-cadre deputation to Manipur to address the state's security needs.

Singh succeeds Rajiv Singh, who held the position since June 2023. The outgoing chief led the force during a challenging period defined by persistent ethnic unrest across the state.
