Imphal: Mukesh Singh arrived in Imphal on Saturday to prepare for his new role as the Director General of Police for Manipur. A 1996-batch Indian Police Service officer, he is scheduled to formally take charge of the state police force on June 1.

The central government approved Singh for an inter-cadre deputation from the AGMUT cadre to the Manipur cadre for a three-year term. The Department of Personnel and Training issued the formal orders for his transfer following his most recent service as the police chief in Ladakh.

He takes over the position from outgoing DGP Rajiv Singh. A 1993-batch officer, Rajiv Singh has led the Manipur Police since June 2023, navigating a period defined by significant ethnic unrest and security challenges. Following the completion of his tenure, Rajiv Singh has been appointed as the Secretary of Security within the Cabinet Secretariat in New Delhi.

Upon landing at Imphal airport from New Delhi, the incoming chief was received by senior police officials. He begins his leadership term as the state continues its efforts to restore long-term stability and improve law and order.
