Guwahati: Two men on a motorcycle snatched gold chains worth 12 lakh from a man right outside the Dibrugarh District Commissioner’s Office. The robbery happened Monday afternoon. Security was present, yet the thieves struck in broad daylight.

Hrishikesh Goswami, a resident of Madarkhat, was climbing the stairs to the office when the pair targeted him. The victim had just arrived by auto-rickshaw for personal business. The suspects wore masks and full-face helmets to hide their faces. They grabbed 18 tolas of gold from his neck and vanished before anyone could move.

The brazen theft in such a sensitive zone highlights a massive security failure. Goswami filed an FIR at the Milan Nagar Police Outpost. Local authorities are now scouring CCTV footage to catch the pair. Investigators stated: "Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the culprits."
