Guwahati: Sagarika Deka died from dengue on June 23. The young woman from Gosorguri village in Morigaon succumbed to the virus after a stint in the ICU at Metro Hospital. She was the sole provider for her parents and brother. Her death now haunts the local community.

Deka first fell ill around June 7 or 8 after returning from work. Her family rushed her to Morigaon Civil Hospital for help. Relatives claim the medical staff failed to run necessary diagnostic tests despite her worsening symptoms. The situation turned dire as the illness progressed.

She moved to an ESIC hospital where doctors finally confirmed she had dengue. They moved her to Metro Hospital for better care. The facility kept her in the Intensive Care Unit until she died. Now, the public is asking hard questions about early detection protocols. Local residents are worried about how authorities manage the disease during this monsoon season. One family member stated, "Sagarika was the sole earning member of the household."
