Guwahati: District officials in Morigaon recently evaluated the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) performance for the 2025-26 fiscal year. During the District Level Review and Advisory Committee meeting, District Commissioner Anamika Tewari emphasized that skill development programs must produce tangible results in entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Tewari urged RSETI leadership to improve coordination with the District Employment Office to better connect graduates with job openings. She highlighted the need for practical experience through internships and field visits, noting that businesses hiring these graduates should offer adequate support. Addressing the effectiveness of the training, Tewari stated, "Skill development programmes serve limited purpose if trainees are unable to secure employment or establish their own enterprises after completing training."
The committee also focused on removing barriers for young entrepreneurs. The District Commissioner directed banks to streamline loan applications for program graduates and instructed RSETI to assist students in obtaining learner licenses for driving courses. Additionally, Additional District Commissioner Nitisha Bora advocated for increased outreach to colleges and local communities to encourage higher participation, particularly among male candidates.
PNB-RSETI Morigaon Director Purnananda Pegu reported that the institute trained 1,024 candidates across 31 programs during the review period, meeting nearly 90 percent of its annual target. A large majority of these participants were from Below Poverty Line families, with women making up the bulk of the trainees. The institute also held 123 awareness campaigns to promote self-employment across the district.
