Kohima: Ambulance drivers in Mon participated in a comprehensive orientation program on June 9 at the District Hospital conference hall. The training focused on enhancing road safety protocols and upgrading first aid skills to improve emergency medical responses across the region.
Latwang Konyak, an assistant sub-inspector from the local Superintendent of Police office, led the road safety segment. He utilized real-world scenarios to emphasize that following traffic regulations is essential for both public safety and the efficiency of urgent patient transport.
Khoatun Konyak of the District Transport Office praised the drivers for their commitment under difficult circumstances. "Drivers often witness both moments of hope and distress alongside patients and families," he remarked while detailing the necessity of keeping vehicles clean, maintaining equipment, and planning efficient routes.
The program concluded with a hands-on session led by Medical Officer Dr. Nyamnyei. Drivers practiced critical skills including CPR, oxygen administration, and the proper use of saline and cannulas. The event was attended by officials from the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent offices to ensure all staff are prepared for high-stakes medical transport.
