Kohima: Ambulance drivers serving in Mon participated in an orientation session on June 9 at the District Hospital conference hall to refine their road safety and first aid skills. The initiative aimed to enhance the quality of emergency response services provided to the community by equipping drivers with practical medical and operational knowledge.
The training featured a road safety module led by ASI Latwang Konyak from the Mon Superintendent of Police office. Through an interactive approach, Konyak underscored how strict adherence to traffic regulations ensures the efficient and safe transport of patients during urgent medical calls.
Khoatun Konyak of the District Transport Office detailed the broader duties of the drivers, including vehicle upkeep, sanitation, and route planning. He noted that the role extends beyond navigation, as drivers are often the first to assist during high-pressure situations. “Ambulance drivers must be quick thinkers who are prepared to respond effectively in challenging situations,’ he emphasised.
During the practical segment, Dr. Nyamnyei demonstrated vital life-saving techniques, including the use of oxygen cylinders, basic CPR, and the management of cannulas and saline. By training staff in these essential patient care practices, the health department aims to strengthen the performance of frontline personnel in Mon, ensuring they are better prepared to handle medical emergencies effectively.
