Aizawl: Mizoram officials met with Union leaders in New Delhi this week to demand help for the state’s struggling industrial sector. Commerce and Industries Minister F. Rodingliana pitched a plan to build large-scale ginger processing plants and expand bamboo use in the textile and paper trades.
Rodingliana sat down with Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State Jitin Prasada. He pushed for better marketing networks to get Mizoram products into the national export stream. The state has enough raw output to dominate the market.
Rodingliana said Mizoram has the potential to emerge as the "Ginger Capital of India" owing to its high production of the crop. He argued that turning raw ginger into value-added goods will keep local cash in the state.
The state also wants a new Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Facilitation Office. Officials claim this building will provide the backbone for local entrepreneurs to expand. H. Lianzela, the Commerce and Industries Secretary, joined the delegation to push for the projects.
