Imphal: In a significant anti-narcotics operation conducted on Monday evening, May 18, Mizoram Police seized a massive cache of methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 19.21 crore in the Saitual district. Law enforcement officials intercepted a white vehicle traveling from Manipur toward Aizawl based on intelligence regarding the transport of illicit substances.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 2,02,000 methamphetamine tablets, weighing approximately 24.016 kilograms. The narcotics, frequently referred to as a crazy drug, were carefully concealed within specialized secret compartments located beneath the spare tire area and along the vehicle sides behind the mudguards. The illicit substances had been packed into black polythene bags to evade detection.
The police took two individuals into custody at the scene: 33-year-old Th Onkhothang Haokip from Moreh in Manipur's Chandel district and 46-year-old Mathew from Churachandpur district's Jolzam village. The vehicle used to transport the drugs was also confiscated by authorities as part of the evidence.
A formal case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, specifically invoking sections 22(c), 25, and 29. Investigators are now working to identify the origin and the intended destination of the shipment, as methamphetamine remains one of the most dangerous synthetic drugs circulating in the region.
