Aizawl: Mizoram officials inked a deal to build a four-star hotel in Aizawl. The government tapped Shillong-based Hotel Polo Towers Ltd to handle the project at the state-owned Chaltlang Tourist Lodge. It is a major tourism bet. This move replaces the aging lodge with a premium facility.
The agreement follows a Public-Private Partnership model. Construction will happen on a design, build, finance, maintain, operate, manage and transfer basis. The initial deal spans 30 years, with two options for 10-year extensions. Ownership of the land stays with the state government. Officials must hand over the site within 45 days.
Initial plans call for 60 guest rooms. The developer can add another 40 later. The building is designed to hit five-star status eventually. Amenities will include a 24-hour coffee shop, a restaurant, and a health club. The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region pushed the plan alongside the state government.
Tourism Secretary Vanlaldina Fanai signed the contract with company CFO Prashant Gupta. The project is officially titled "Development of 4-Star or Higher Category Hotel at Tourist Lodge, Chaltlang, Aizawl, Mizoram on Design, Build, Finance, Maintain, Operate, Manage and Transfer (DBFMOMT) Basis."
