Aizawl: Mizoram officials inked a deal Tuesday to replace the aging tourist lodge in Chaltlang with a high-end, four-star hotel. This project moves forward under a public-private partnership with Shillong-based Hotel Polo Towers Ltd.
The agreement covers a project titled "Development of 4-Star or Higher Category Hotel at Tourist Lodge, Chaltlang, Aizawl, Mizoram on Design, Build, Finance, Maintain, Operate, Manage and Transfer (DBFMOMT) Basis." It marks a sharp shift in local infrastructure goals. Tourism Secretary Vanlaldina Fanai signed the contract alongside the company's finance chief, Prashant Gupta.
Construction starts soon. The state gives the firm the project site within 45 days. Hotel Polo Towers holds the keys for an initial 30 years. They can tack on two ten-year extensions later. Despite this, the state keeps full land ownership throughout the entire duration of the deal.
The plans show 60 rooms at launch. There is space to add 40 more later. The final build will house a health club, a spa, a gym, and a round-the-clock coffee shop. Designers want the build to meet standards that allow for future five-star status. This venture grew from a partnership between Mizoram planners and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, fueled by an investment push held earlier this year in Kolkata.
