Imphal: The Mizoram government convened a high-level meeting on May 19 to assess the implementation of the peace agreement signed with the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) faction led by Lalhmingthanga Sanate. Chaired by K. Sapdanga, the discussions prioritized accelerating socio-economic development and infrastructure projects across the northern and northeastern regions of the state where the Hmar community resides.

Key officials, including Adviser to the Chief Minister Lalmuanpuia Punte and representatives from the Home Department and CID, reviewed the charter of demands established in the Memorandum of Settlement. The proposed initiatives focus on improving road connectivity, establishing new educational institutions, creating government offices, and bolstering support for local farmers and agro-based industries.

The review follows the historic April 14 peace accord, which officially ended the last active insurgency movement in Mizoram. On April 30, Sanate and 42 other cadres formally surrendered their weapons during a homecoming ceremony held at Sesawng near Aizawl. Authorities have instructed relevant departments to coordinate efforts and submit progress reports to ensure the rehabilitation of former members and the timely execution of regional development goals.
