Kohima: The Directorate of Minority Affairs held an awareness and sensitization program at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Mokokchung on May 14. This initiative was specifically designed to educate and empower notified minority groups—including Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis, and Jains—on various government welfare schemes aimed at enhancing educational, economic, and infrastructure development.
Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma welcomed the officials and highlighted the importance of the event. He noted that although these welfare programs are relatively new to the local population, consistent outreach efforts are essential to bridge the information gap and strengthen the socio-economic framework of the region.
In his keynote address, Joint Director Andrew C. Imti explained that the recently established independent Department of Minority Affairs in Nagaland is now the primary nodal agency for these initiatives. This move is intended to streamline programs that were previously fragmented across multiple departments, ensuring more efficient delivery of services. Imti also emphasized that the department is fully committed to the welfare of the public and maintains the highest standards of integrity and transparency in all its operations.
During the event, departmental experts provided comprehensive briefings on available resources. Programme Assistant Khriezotuolie detailed financial credit opportunities provided by the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation, while Superintendent Rugozeto Iralu provided guidance on the application process for Minority Scholarship schemes. Additionally, Project Officer Shalo Khing presented updates on skill development and infrastructural projects supported by the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and PM VIKAS. The session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Imti.
