Meitei and Naga women groups join forces in Manipur

Imphal: Meitei and Naga women activists are teaming up. They plan to build a joint apex body to navigate the violence tearing through Manipur. The decision surfaced after a meeting at the home of Ima Usham Amubi, who leads the Advanced Women Society Apunba Meira Paibi.

Leaders from 14 different villages showed up. They represented areas including Awang Sekmai, Kanglatongbi, and Namdilong. The groups argue that the fighting ruined the peace between neighbors. They also blamed state inaction for the carnage.

The activists claimed the government ignored the threat. They allege that the failure to act early allowed Kuki groups to strike, killing people and destroying property. This platform aims to coordinate a unified response to the ongoing unrest.

For now, the groups function as a united forum. They intend to draft a formal structure soon. "The common platform was formed to jointly respond to issues affecting the Meitei and Naga communities and to strengthen coordination between the two groups," the representatives stated. More meetings will follow to finalize their next move.
