Meitei and Naga women form joint coalition for peace

Imphal: Meitei and Naga women have joined forces to create the North Indigenous Women’s Organisation. The group pulls members from Awang Sekmai, Kanglatongbi, and Makhan. It aims to bridge gaps between indigenous communities. Leaders formed the body at a meeting involving Meira Paibi representatives from 20 local villages.

Usham Amubi will lead the new group as president. Other officers include Warepam Sanahanbi, Ruth Thiumai, Soubam Madhabi, and Ng. Tombi. The team gathered at Amubi’s home in Awang Sekmai to set their agenda. They want to stop outside agitators. Amubi stated, "the organisation was formed in response to repeated attempts by external forces to divide indigenous communities."

The group demands action from the state and central governments. They want a quick return to peace in Manipur. The organization also insists on clearing out illegal immigrants. They claim this task must happen before any future census. The women warned that unchecked migration threatens the security of indigenous people across the state.
