Shillong: Meghalaya officials are rolling out advanced outdoor air purifiers in the industrial township of Byrnihat. The move follows a successful proof of concept study conducted with the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board. Byrnihat consistently ranks as one of the most polluted spots in India.
Zero Carbon Tech24 Pvt Ltd developed the hardware. It is a filterless, self-cleaning system built for round-the-clock use. It requires minimal power and maintenance. Business head Sandeep Sharma and strategic partner Abhijit Trivedi presented the technology to Cabinet Minister Sosthenes Sohtun. Sharma stated, "The system is specifically designed for outdoor environments and can operate round-the-clock without conventional filters, significantly reducing operational costs."
A trial of the tech logged a 45 percent drop in particulate pollution. The state government now plans a pilot deployment. This project is a key move in a broader plan involving better monitoring and tougher control measures. Officials hope the tech will eventually cover more ground to improve public health.
