Shillong: Meghalaya officials are rolling out a solar-powered air purification pilot in Byrnihat. The state aims to scrub the air in this industrial hub. The move follows successful trials conducted by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board and Zero Carbon Tech24 Pvt. Ltd., a firm based in Mumbai.
Cabinet Minister and Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun met with local village leaders and company reps on Wednesday to review the data. He wants to balance industrial growth with public health. Sosthenes Sohtun said the proposed pilot project is intended to reduce pollution levels in the industrial hub while ensuring industries continue to comply with environmental and pollution control regulations.
Byrnihat often ranks as one of India's most polluted spots. The pilot system aims to change that. To back this up, the government approved a new MSPCB regional office for the town. This base will speed up inspections and clamp down on rule-breakers. It is a major shift in how the state handles environmental oversight.
