Shillong: The 2026 Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test shattered previous records. More than 84 percent of candidates qualified in both papers according to the Directorate of Educational Research and Training. These results represent the highest pass percentage since the test started in 2019.
Officials released the data on Thursday. The exam took place on July 24 for those aiming to teach Classes I to VIII. In Paper I, 18,546 out of 21,999 candidates passed, hitting an 84.30 percent success rate. Paper II saw 18,672 out of 21,884 candidates qualify, reaching 85.32 percent. This is a massive jump from 2025, where success rates hovered around 63 and 64 percent.
DERT officials managed the testing at 57 venues for Paper I and 56 for Paper II across all state districts. They issued guidebooks and instructional videos to help teachers navigate OMR sheets. The department stated that the "2026 examination was conducted in a professional, fair and transparent manner."
The state follows National Council for Teacher Education standards for these appointments. With exams held in 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025, and 2026, the department now plans three future rounds. Tests are tentatively set for January 2027, September 2027, and March 2028. Candidates can view their full results at megeducation.gov.in.
