Shillong: The United Democratic Party (UDP) of Meghalaya has issued a strong condemnation following the tragic killing of three church leaders in Manipur. The victims, identified as Rev. Vumthang Sitlhou, president of the TBAI, Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, the organization's finance secretary, and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou, were targeted in an act that the party has labeled as both barbaric and cowardly.

In a formal statement, UDP general secretary Titosstar Well Chyne expressed profound anguish, asserting that the violence represents an assault on religious freedom and the constitutional values of India. The party maintained that there is no justification, whether ethnic or political, for the murder of unarmed religious leaders who dedicate their lives to community service and compassion.

The UDP has called upon both the Manipur state administration and the Union government to prioritize the investigation and apprehend those responsible for the crime. Emphasizing the necessity of the rule of law, the party urged the National Commission for Minorities to take suo motu cognizance of the incident to ensure better protection for clergy and religious minorities within conflict-affected zones.
