Meghalaya Refurbishes Over 1,300 Schools Under Mission Education

Shillong: Meghalaya has finished renovations on 1,391 Government Lower Primary schools. Crews are currently fixing the final 216 sites. The state earmarked nearly 1,000 crore rupees to repair and upgrade classrooms. This work falls under the flagship Mission Education program.

Officials targeted 1,607 LP schools for urgent repairs. More than 86 percent of the work is finished. The program covers primary, secondary, and higher secondary institutions across every district. Workers are fixing leaky roofs, crumbling walls, and damaged floors. New sites get libraries, better toilets, and modern furniture.

The state manages construction in phases. They finished 198 buildings in the first two rounds. Another 117 schools are now under construction. The government maintains that it tracks every site with digital proof. Officials claim, "isolated images of schools yet to be renovated do not reflect the overall progress achieved across the state."

The administration acknowledges the massive scale of the job. Meghalaya holds nearly 15,000 elementary schools. Planners expect to keep upgrading the system in stages for the long haul.
