Shillong: Police arrested a couple Monday during an anti-infiltration sweep in Meghalaya. Officers caught Rahim Ali, 43, and Jaibanu, 35, carrying 116 vials of suspected heroin. The drugs weighed 14.42 grams.

Personnel from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and AID conducted the operation in the East Khasi Hills district. Security teams checked 35 people during the drive. Some individuals fled the scene upon seeing officers. Others presented identity papers from various states. Police plan to verify these documents with local authorities.

The drugs were confiscated in front of an independent witness. Police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Sadar Police Station. Authorities confirmed that "anti-infiltration and anti-narcotics drives will continue as part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal infiltration." Investigators are now processing the evidence.
