Shillong: The Meghalaya Basin Management Agency signed a deal with the Spices Board on August 19. They want better spice crops. This agreement falls under the Asian Development Bank funded Integrated Eco-tourism and Sustainable Agri-based Livelihood Development Project.
Officials chose three specific crops for this push: black pepper, large cardamom, and cinnamon. The Spices Board will supply technical guidance. They intend to teach scientific, sustainable methods to local farmers. The goal is simple. Create high-value livelihoods and build new economic opportunities for people across the state.
MBMA executive director Gavede Sachin Shankar signed the deal alongside Spices Board secretary M S Manivannan. ADB IESALD Project Director D Vijay Kumar watched the signing, joined by various officials from both groups. The partnership marks a fresh attempt to modernize local agriculture. They start now.
