Shillong: The government of Meghalaya has launched a significant new survey aimed at addressing substance abuse across the state. Operating under the umbrella of the DREAM Mission, the initiative seeks to gather precise data on the prevalence, consumption patterns, and overall impact of substance use within local communities. This scientific endeavor is designed to provide the necessary evidence for future policymaking, reflecting the vision of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to tackle the issue through a multi-sectoral, data-driven approach.

The launch event saw key participation from academic leadership, including Principal Dr. Eureka F. P. Lyngdoh and Vice Principal K. Chyne, alongside representatives from the DREAM Mission and advocacy groups such as the Meghalaya User’s Forum and the Meghalaya Drug Users Network. According to Mission Director Francis Kharshiing, the survey marks a critical step forward in the state's strategic efforts to mitigate substance abuse through collaboration and empirical research.
