Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya hit the brakes on its investigation into illegal coal mining this Monday. Judges pushed the hearing back one week after the state government dumped a fresh status report on the court.
The bench needs time to chew on the data. They refused to rush the review. Officials will have another look at the situation when the case returns to the docket on July 20, 2026.
Justice B.P. Katakey, the retired judge leading the independent probe, filed his 39th interim report. The court accepted this filing and ordered that "copies to be circulated to all parties" involved in the litigation.
