Meghalaya Grants Official Heritage Status to Shillong's Lok Bhavan

Shillong: The Meghalaya government has officially designated Lok Bhavan as a heritage building. The Urban Affairs Department issued the notification, citing the structure's significant historical, architectural, and cultural importance to the state.

Located in the center of Shillong, the building has served as a central landmark for governance and public activity for years. Officials stated that this move is necessary to protect the site and ensure the long-term preservation of Meghalaya's unique architectural identity.

Following this designation, the building now falls under the Meghalaya Heritage Regulations of 2013. The order took effect immediately, ensuring the conservation of the site under the provisions of the Meghalaya Heritage Act of 2012.
