Meghalaya Government Sets Requirements for Bike Taxi Permits

Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar confirmed that the Meghalaya Transport Department is prepared to issue permits to all eligible bike taxi operators. This announcement follows recent discussions between state officials and aggregator representatives regarding commercial operations within the state.

To obtain a permit, operators must secure a trading licence from the relevant District Council. Dhar emphasized that the government aims to support youth employment and those seeking to earn a living through two-wheeler or four-wheeler services. He clarified that the administration has no intention of harassing companies such as Rapido and is focused on facilitating the legal process for those who meet the required standards.
